BPKP and Monash University's ClimateWorks Center Collaborated in Discussing Case Studies and Preparing Sustainability Briefing Notes

Bali – BPKP and Monash University's ClimateWorks Center collaborated in discussing case studies and preparing sustainability briefing notes from Wednesday (15/11/2023) to Friday (17/11/2023).

To support the achievement of the Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (ENDC) target and the Indonesian Government's Sustainable Development Goals, the BPKP Deputy State Accountant, together with Monash University's ClimateWorks Center, held a focus group discussion (FGD) activity which was held for three days. This FGD covers two major topics, first discussing the concept of sustainability, brief notes, and discussion of BUMN case studies in the energy and financial services sectors.

Director of Supervision of Agribusiness, Infrastructure, and Trade Enterprises Heli Restiati emphasized that sustainability briefing notes must be prepared well to convey the substance to stakeholders. Heli also expressed the need to deepen case studies on BUMN in the energy and financial services sectors because these two sectors showed promising results in the ESG factor implementation assessment carried out by BPKP. At the 2022 G20 meeting in Bali, Indonesia committed to making energy transition efforts through the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) program. On this occasion, Sustainable Finance Lead ClimateWorks Center, Dr. John Vong explained that energy transitions, such as the early roofing of coal power plants in Indonesia, require significant investment. Good support from investors is needed, especially the involvement of the private sector. In this case, the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), one of the largest financial institutions in the world, is committed to implementing the energy transition towards net zero.

Juniarti Gunawan, PhD, who represented the Sustainability Center of Trisakti University, was a brave resource person at this activity and provided additional information. Juni emphasized that BUMN is still in the process of adapting to the Regulation of the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Number PER-1/MBU/03/2023 concerning Special Assignments and Social and Environmental Responsibility Programs for State-Owned Enterprises, so it is necessary to state whether the TJSL implemented has moved from the contractual CSR and indeed refers to the socio-economic empowerment of stakeholders following ISO 26000.
